ELEPHANTS SANCTUARY & DEERLAND

KUALA GANDAH, PAHANG : ELEPHANTS SANCTUARY & DEERLAND

INFO @ Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary
For the past 30 years, Kuala Gandah Elephant Conservation Center has been translocating elephants which make problems and also disturb the villages to the plantations (especially palm oil and banana) . The initial set-up of this center was mainly to focus on the elephant translocation job, but now the center also serves as the spot for elephant conservation awareness to the public.
Currently (2007), there are about 11 elephants in the center.  This include 3 baby elephants which are less then 3 years old.  A ranger said one was found by a farmer and left alone with no mother (or parent)  around when it was about 6 months old at the forest's edge.
The Center is open daily from 9-4:45pm (closed on major public holidays). Do some research if you would like to ride or bathe the elephants. There have been reports that these activities have been curtailed as of September 2012.
